Monsters

Intro Song: Shake Your Sillies Out by Raffi (always)

Book: The Wizard, the Fairy, and the Magic Chicken by Helen Lester

Children's Book: The Wizard, The Fairy, and the Magic Chicken

A story about a Wizard, a Fairy, and a Magic Chicken who always try to outdo each other until they have to work together.  It was one of my favorite books as a child and the kids at storytime enjoyed it.

Puppet Story: The Three Billy Goats Gruff

This didn't go over too well.  This would definitely work better with an extra person.  I only had one goat puppet, which didn't help matters.

Book: Leonardo, The Terrible Monster by Mo Willems

Children's Book: Leonardo, The Terrible Monster

Mo Willems is always a hit for storytime and this book is great for all ages of listeners.

Song: We Are The Dinosaurs by Laurie Berkner

Children chose their favorite dinosaur and marched like their dinosaur around the room while following the sequence of the song.

Book: The Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone

Children's Book: The Monster at the End of this Book

Amazing, amazing book!  I used my Grover voice (one of the few I do) and the kids absolutely loved the pictures, story and *suspense*.  I would recommend this for any monster storytime without reservation.

Game/Song: If You're a Monster and You Know It.

I think I've heard of a book that did something similar, but I'm too lazy to look it up right now.  You just use the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It" and add in some monsterly actions.  We did several "Jump and Say Boo", "Shout and Roar", "Bare Your Teeth", etc.

Book: Mostly Monsterly by Tammi Sauer

Children's Book: Mostly Monsterly

This was a very cute book.  I almost didn't use it, as the plot is similar to Leonardo - however - it is about a girl monster and it is dissimilar enough that I thought it would be good.  The kids enjoyed this one too - but I think the parents liked it more.

Game/Song: The Monster Pokey

It's the Hokey Pokey with monster parts.
